Lesson #5 Reflection
Standard 4: Professional Growth and Responsibilities
Component 4.1: Reflecting on Practice
Performance Indicators: RIPTS 3,9,10, INTASC 9, CEC 6WHAT?
For this lesson, the students learned about important environmental issues facing the state of Maine and worked through an online module to create a sustainable city. The students were engaged throughout the lesson, only getting sidetracked a few times with side conversations. They seemed to enjoy the sustainable city activity and drew blueprints for their new city. They also all exceeded expectations when discussing possible causes and effects of environmental issues by leading the discussion at times and asking questions to deepen their understanding of the topic. The students were able to confidently answer the Blooket questions, which they played through twice. We were also able to get through all of the activities planned for the lesson, with time to say our goodbyes before we left. Overall, this lesson was our most successful and the students seemed to enjoy the activities we had planned.

SO WHAT?
From this lesson, I had practice incorporating more technology into the lesson. Madison and I created an online module that allowed the students to create a sustainable city. There were embedded videos for the students to watch as they followed along with a packet to write their responses. I also learned how much of an impact you can make on students, even after just 6 lessons. Seeing the growth that the students made from the first lesson made me excited to become a teacher and work with my own classroom of students. Their cooperation and participation is what made this experience so successful. From this entire practicum experience, I learned that not every lesson will run perfectly, but I now have experience adapting and being flexible, which will help me in the future. I know I am able to adapt my lessons to meet the needs of all of my students.
NOW WHAT?
This experience will influence how I plan and teach in the future because I have this experience under my belt. This experience made me think on my feet and come up with different ways to present the lessons and activities to the students. This experience will influence my professional identity because I know how much of an impact I make on the students as a teacher from watching these four students grow through the span of 6 lessons.
