Lesson #4 Reflection
Standard 4: Professional Growth and Responsibilities
Component 4.1: Reflecting on Practice
Performance Indicators: RIPTS 3,9,10, INTASC 9, CEC 6WHAT?
This lesson seemed to be engaging for the students and they seemed to enjoy the activities we had planned. For our ice breaker activity, we asked the students what three things they would buy if they won $1,000,000 and the students had fun coming up with their responses. After the vocabulary activity and read aloud, all students were able to differentiate between human, natural, and capital resources, and all students were able to give a simple, one-sentence explanation to what economy means. The economy board game had a rough start because the directions were difficult for some of the students to follow but, as we played, they all appeared to enjoy the game and gain a basic understanding of money.
We did not have time to get to the Blooket for this lesson. The vocabulary activity and read aloud took up more time than planned, and the game took longer than expected to set up and explain. Although we did not get to the Blooket, the students were able to demonstrate an understanding of the lesson throughout the lesson activities and through discussions. This shows the importance of thinking through each step of the lesson and accounting for set up time. Overall, I believe this was a successful lesson that kept the students engaged throughout.
Economy Game:
SO WHAT?
From this experience, I learned that I need to manage my time better in order to get to all of the activities I had planned. For each activity, it is important to consider the time it takes to explain, set up, and clean up the activity. It is also important to be flexible and adjust the lesson according to time.
NOW WHAT?
This experience will influence how I plan in the future because I will understand the importance of time management. I will set aside additional time for set up and clean up of activities, and allow myself to be flexible if I do not plan my time appropriately. Overall, I am happy with how this lesson went and how engaged the students were throughout.
